Academic Center Portal

General

  • When a faculty/staff member or a student logs into the website from the "website login" page, the website should immediately jump to the Academic Center portal page. When a parent logs into the website from the "website login" page, the website should immediately jump to the parent portal page.
  • Parents should be able to access the classroom pages from the parent portal and faculty/staff and students should be able to access classroom pages from the academic center.
  • Would it be possible to increase the academic center's page width? The default seems a bit cramped.
  • Create a broadcast email template that aggregates all content from the academic center.
  • Create a student directory- we will add generic, class-based logins for students.
  • I would like to see what it would like without rounded corner modules and less white space.
  • Due to the age of our students, we would like to funnel them to the classroom pages
  • Please make the academic center live for everyone in the faculty-staff directory as soon as it is developed but available to people in the parents directory on August 19, 2008

Modules

  • Include the following modules, but make sure that they are visible on the front end of the website to only faculty and staff; please vary the colors of each module
    • General Announcements for All Employees (news module)- list only three (no content captions) but make an archive page that shows the title and content captions for all published news articles from this module.
    • Announcements for ULD Teachers (news module)- list only three (no content captions) but make an archive page that shows the title and content captions for all published news articles from this module.
    • Announcements for VELD/ELD Teachers (news module)- list only three (no content captions) but make an archive page that shows the title and content captions for all published news articles from this module.
    • Announcements for Staff (news module)- list only three (no content captions) but make an archive page that shows the title and content captions for all published news articles from this module.
    • Human Resource News (news module)- list only three (no content captions) but make an archive page that shows the title and content captions for all published news articles from this module.
    • Faculty and Staff Calendar (calendar)- block view, two weeks (7 days); show only calendar titles but the ability to expand a day depending on the number of events; I would like for this to span both the main content area as well as the secondary sidebar.
    • Directory Search- should search all faculty, staff, and parents
    • Faculty Forms (file gallery)- List 5 files and a link that goes to a page that shows all files in the file gallery. Call the link "All Forms."
    • Faculty Lists and Files (file gallery)- List 5 files and a link that goes to a page that shows all files in the file gallery. Call the link "All Forms."
    • Faculty Discussion (discussion board)
    • Add the following links to the primary sidebar:
  • Include the following modules for all faculty/staff members AND students
    • Include a "Your Classes" module in the secondary sidebar
    • Include some way for students/faculty to navigate and find other classroom pages
    • Include any default academic center tools that I might not be thinking about right now

Classroom Pages

General

  • Want a different design treatment for classroom pages. One for teachers from 3 year old through first and another from second through 6th; specials will be grouped accordingly
  • All classroom pages should be accessible by all students, faculty, staff, and parents- need some way to search and find classroom pages
  • Create some way for a teacher to add links to specials teachers in the primary sidebar or add a link to the bottom of the primary sidebar that says "Special Teachers;" this could even be in the form of a resource module in the secondary sidebar
  • Can the functionality of a weekly, automated email be sent to parents when a base classroom page is updated?
  • RSS?

Modules

Include the following modules on all classroom pages (this different from the demo page):
  • News & Notes (news module)- place in the main content area
  • Photos (photo gallery)- place in the secondary sidebar
  • Calendar- place in the secondary sidebar
  • Home Links (news module)- place in the secondary sidebar; this is going to be like an assignments area just named differently
  • Classroom Files (file gallery)- place in the secondary sidebar; show five and have a link that reads "More Files" that links to a page that shows all published files in the gallery
Notes:
  • All modules need to have the quick add/quick post ability; Make sure that the "time out" is sufficiently long (1-2 hours) or doesn't affect classroom pages
  • If a teacher adds a picture to a news article, it should NOT produce a "read more" link; the read more link should only appear if something is added to the content area
  • Please create a way for teachers to embed podcasts/videos posted to the website inside of a news article (content caption and content areas); this can be using the code that is necessary for posting to a webpage (it doesn't have to be an easy solution as long as it is possible)

Additional Functionality

  • Create a button that reads "Progress Reports" and put it in the secondary sidebar; this button will link to Blackbaud's netclassroom which Trinity will setup
  • Create a "module" that uses del.icio.us links/accounts
  • Create a open-ended text box that allows teachers to embed youtube, slideshare, widgetbox, etc... resources

Questions

  • How will teacher turnover effect the naming structure of modules and the ability to change names when needed?
  • Talk about how to organize and link special teachers. What is the best way to go about doing this with the data that is loaded into schoolsuite? A lot of the specials teachers are co-teachers
  • How would RSS feeds for pages that are behind password-protection work?
